Building information modelling (BIM)

BIM is a widely used method for creating construction drawings. It involves creating accurate 3D models that are used before and after construction. At Solve, we use BIM models for all our projects. These models serve as a central database for structural analysis and 3D reinforcement models. It streamlines the process, saves time, and minimises errors. We can create drawings and export them as slices at specific locations. A free 3D BIM model – either in DWG, DGN or 3D PDF format – will be provided alongside.

Digital software
packages

We've invested in various software packages for 3D BIM modeling, including TEKLA Structures, Tekla Structural Designer, Trimble Connect, TEDDS and SCIA Engineer. These packages allow us to read or create models and exchange data using IFC and other common file types, facilitating easy interaction and data sharing with the project team.

We can also import/export to REVIT and ARCHICAD. 3D modeling helps deliver comprehensive plans, sections, elevations, and details, tailored to the complexity of the building.

Digital collaboration tool

At Solve Structural Design, we leverage Trimble Connect to streamline our BIM work. This powerful collaboration tool enables seamless communication among all project stakeholders, from rebar fixers to consulting engineers. With Trimble Connect, we offer a clearer project overview, easy data access, efficient workflow management, and real-time progress monitoring. This mobile-friendly solution revolutionises our construction projects, ensuring excellence in collaboration and efficiency.

Augmented reality (HoloLens)

We also harness AR technology like HoloLens in our BIM work. With AR headsets, we overlay BIM data onto the real world, streamlining the process when it comes to rebar installation and verification. Our vision? A future where AR enables direct bar calloff and ordering from live models, rendering 2D drawings unnecessary. Embracing these advancements, we can deliver unparalleled efficiency and accuracy.

Mixed reality and laser scanning

Mixed reality facilitated by Trimble Connect offers a groundbreaking approach to construction visualisation and verification. With this technology, teams can seamlessly visualise, review, and share 3D designs directly within physical environments using holographic data, bridging the gap between digital models and real-world construction sites. Additionally, the integration of Trimble laser scanning technology further enhances accuracy and efficiency in construction processes. By using laser scanning robot dogs, teams can effectively verify the alignment of installed rebar with corresponding points in the 3D model, ensuring that construction progress aligns precisely with the blueprint specifications.

Automatic bar bending files

As soon as reinforcement is modelled in 3D using TEKLA STRUCTURES, and before final RC drawings are completed, SOLVE can produce a Bar Bending Schedule for the bars to be cut and bent at a rebar manufacturer for issue to site. In addition to this, depending upon the level of automation at the select reinforcement supplier/manufacturer, SOLVE can issue from the TEKLA model electronic manufacturing files that manufacturers can input into automated cutting and bending Robots to streamline and speed up the manufacture and delivery of cut and bent reinforcement to site.
